Mushahid welcomes Geo restoration

ISLAMABAD: The PML (Q) Secretary General and Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Mushahid Hussain has welcomed the restoration of Geo News and termed it as a victory for a free and independent media. Talking to reporters here on Monday, he said that the freedom of press and democracy were twin pillars of the new emerging dynamic and vibrant Pakistan and without a free and independent media, there could be no democracy.

He said that “we had been demanding the restoration of Geo since this meant reversing a wrong, and in these times, there is neither any room for censorship nor any room for closure of media channels.” Geo today is an important calling card for Pakistan’s international media identity and private television channels such as Geo provide confidence to the people by giving credibility to news emanating from Pakistan, he added.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the PML (Q) to the freedom of speech and expression. He said that independent channels such as Geo were a product of the PML legacy of the last five years and this is something which the whole nation should be proud of.-SANA
