Pakistan: Two predictions for the election day and two for the election/result night
Only few hours are remaining in the start of the election day and I hence venture to make some predictions. First, this will be by far the bloodiest election day in our history and the start of this bloodshed was witnessed last night when a PML-N candidate was killed with his associates. Second, contradictory as it may seem there will be highest turnout ever. The government may not want it to keep it that way hence in the start it will be dubbed as a low turnout election but then it will have to concede.
And now two for the night. First Pakistan People’s Party will sweep the elections. And I mean really sweep. Second, if this is not the case, angry mobs will attack the offices and houses of Musharraf and gut them alive no matter how much police or army patrols the street. In other words, the time for army to decide where its sympathies lie has finally arrived: with the nation or with a failing regime.
Musharraf has called these elections the mother of elections, at least he will have to wait and see what this mother is to bear. I don’t hope it, I don’t wish it, I don’t doubt it, I don’t fear it, I just see it coming. Winter is not wishing to leave us right so the burning flesh will fight the cold. I am sorry folks, it’s too late for a word of caution. I can only pray that something else and better happens.
